Have Questions or are you new to the hobby of Reef keeping. Here
we will explain the reasoning behind some of our suggested reef
keeping methods. also Please feel free to call us, and we'll be
happy to further answer any questions.
Ideas on lighting- the type of lighting for your
reef aquarium depends on the types of fishes and corals you keep
on your aquarium.
Heres a background about what happens to Natural sun light in the
ocean. You get about 75% of the full visible spectrum of light from
1 to 5 feet then as you go deep9er say 6 to 9 feet you get about
50% and about 20% at 15 - 20 feet At this point all you have left
is the blue spectrum filtering through the water.
With your home aquarium the average aquarium depth is about 2 feet,
this is not nearly deep enough to filter out the different frequencies
of light found in the ocean. This is why we use diffrent colored
floresent bulbs or metal halide lighting in our reef setups. By
balancing the diffrent frequencies or colors of light, your reef
aquarium will thrive.
